Projects Implemented:

Women Empowerment through Institutional Growth with Inclusion & Equity:

Goal: “Quality of life of the most marginalized and vulnerable families in general and women in particular in the rural and resource poor improved through efficient functioning of their local institutions in the form of availing and utilizing their basic rights and entitlements over resources and schemes at household, community, GP, block and district level.”

Purpose: “People’s organizations, Federations, Cooperatives and such other apex community based local organizations made efficiently functional and strengthened to promote the interest of rural people in general and the most vulnerable women and their families in particular, to avail and use the basic facilities / benefits and resources favorably to improve their purchasing and bargaining capacities”. Outcomes:

• The non-members but extreme poor women of the communities integrated into the SHGs/ Federations and have increased their stakes, benefits and opportunities & income. Targeted households identified within & outside the self-help groups & federations, acquire improved functional skills, linkages and availed opportunities for participation in economically gainful activities & enterprises.

• Women federations strengthened & sustained to act as legal counseling body for the area.

• The community leaders along with their local groups & organizations function as centers of good governance exhibiting high levels of transparency accountability with social justice principles favoring the most neglected and marginalized people of the community in relation to all project and resource based activities.

• People’s organizations & their leaders emerge as vibrant advocacy & counseling centers on behalf of CSOs, CBOs & Government to establish peace, harmony & democratic rights in favor of the ethnic and differently marginalized groups.

• Block level & district level apex body of federations formed & strengthened and operating self-reliantly.

• Increased access to micro credit & related financial services.

• Sources of livelihood of at least 75% poor and most vulnerable families of target areas in 12 districts of Orissa improved through increased availability of food & enhanced income generating activities.

• Capacities of the project staffs & collaborators enhanced to effectively manage the project.

Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction & Management:

Project Goal: communities facing hazard and disaster situation will have reduce vulnerability by improving their copping and decision making capacities, actions and strategies with improved decision making at the community level for leading a normal life.

Operational are selection criteria:

• Exposure to multiple hazard.

• High concentration of SC, ST & OBC people.

• High percentage of BPL and ultra-poor.

• Migration prone area.

• Interior and inaccessible from the delivery of services.

Project Goal:

Developing a replicable model on drinking water and sanitation and advocacy for wide replication.

Project Objectives:

• To develop model Gram Panchayats on drinking water and sanitation (achieving the norms for Swajal Gram Panchayats and Nirmal Gram Panchayats)

• To advocate for wider replication of the model and experiences

• To build the capacity of NGOsM

• To build the capacity of network established and strengthened at block, district and state levels

• To build the capacity of RCDC for effectiveness and sustainability of the programme

Ori- Neem Project:

Vision: To help the people to help themselves by showing a path to all the deprived and suppressed people of the society and create a society which is free from all the discriminations of sex, caste, creed and religion.

Mission: To identify and develop the potentiality of the downtrodden mass, to bring a sustainable development for the weaker and vulnerable section of the society by improving their socio-eco- cultural aspects.

Objective:

 Management of Natural resources at the grass root level and restore them.

 Establishing a common platform for the under privileged and oppressed class people for their sustainable development.

 To ensure environmental protection and restore the eco-biological aspects.

 To act for the alleviation of the poverty by boosting the self-management.

 To undertake disaster and natural calamities programme during the emergency.

 To conduct action research on various socio-eco-educational issues mainly based on rural and tribals.

Activities:

i. Constitution of Neem Development Committee with participation of Local PRI, Representatives of WSHGs and ASA and Government Agencies and to initiate steps for care and maintenance of existing plants.

ii. Selection of project team

iii. Survey of the area to access plant population, production and present marketing arrangement

iv. Formation of WSHGs

v. Skill development programme on post harvest technology [collection,

Depulping & drying] for women/collectors of neem seed

vi. Training on entrepreneurship development on cottage industries to be organised for group or individual basis

vii. Formation Primary Neem SHG Co-op Society to undertake production enhancement programme, procurement and processing.

viii. Formation of a Block level SHG Federation to undertake Marketing, Input Supply, Training, Product development and technology dissemination.

ix. Training of farmers on organic Cultivation

x. Neem Coverage on back yard, Field Bonds, as a pure crop on community waste land, schools, colleges and avenue plantation

xi. Establishment of demonstrative Processing units / Production Centre

xii. Demand /Market survey to identify products already in demand.

xiii. Support groups with equipments and working Capital Assistance

xiv. Marketing of the produce and to share profit with members/future expansion.

xv. Publication of leaflets/booklets on post harvest Technology/value added products/organic cultivation of Neem.

Promotion of Mushroom Cultivation:

The project as stated in the proposal continues to be the same. The main objective to enhance the economic self-reliance of members of selected women SHGs as entrepreneurs through income generation remain the same. This was to be done through a training program on mushroom production, the promotion of mushroom cultivation, its processing and marketing among groups of marginalised rural communities. Training included all activities related to mushroom cultivation from fruiting to marketing. Entrepreneurial skills were also to be included in the training. The result would be that through self-sufficiency, the livelihood of poor family would be improved.
